Important safety and legal notice
Please read these Terms carefully, especially sections 5 - 8 and 17 - 18, 30 - 33.
- Tabi is a family ride-coordination, tracking and safety-support technology platform. It is not a taxi, e-hailing, rideshare, transport, dispatch or emergency service, and it does not itself provide rides.
- A ride shown, requested, offered, accepted or tracked in Tabi is not a guarantee that transport, pickup, supervision or safe arrival will occur.
- Road travel involves risks including delay, breakdown, collision, injury and death. Drivers remain responsible for driving lawfully and safely. Parents and guardians remain responsible for deciding whether a ride is suitable and for supervision and contingency arrangements.
- Live location, routes, SOS and safety alerts are supplementary tools. GPS, batteries, devices, operating systems, mobile networks and third-party services can fail, delay or be inaccurate.
- Tabi does not currently provide motor, passenger, medical, accident or property insurance.
- The limitations of liability, assumption-of-risk and indemnity provisions are subject to rights and remedies that applicable law does not allow to be excluded or limited.
1 Definitions
In these Terms:
- Adult User means an adult parent, guardian, family member, driver or other person authorised to hold a Tabi account.
- Authorised Driver means an Adult User whom the relevant family/ride participants have selected or accepted to drive and whose account is technically permitted to offer or perform rides. It does not, by itself, mean that Tabi has independently verified every credential or guarantees the person's safety or competence.
- Child or Dependant means a person whose profile is managed in a family account or whose device is linked through Child Mode.
- Child Mode means the restricted, parent/family-controlled paired-device experience that can display approved trip information, share location during an authorised trip and send a family SOS alert.
- Content means information, photographs, notes, reviews, reports, locations and other material submitted or generated through Tabi.
- Driver means the Adult User assigned to drive a particular ride.
- Family means the private account group used to manage adult members, children, vehicles and rides.
- Ride or Trip means a family journey requested, offered, matched, accepted, performed or recorded through Tabi.
- Safety Features include live tracking, Child Mode, SOS, pickup verification, GPS-loss, separation or route-deviation events, notifications and post-ride safety reporting.
- Tabi or Platform means the Tabi Family Rides service. We, us or our means ANCODE (PTY) LTD, the company identified above.
- User means an Adult User and, where the context requires, an authorised Child Mode user. A young child is not treated as independently undertaking contractual obligations where applicable law does not permit that result.
2 Acceptance eligibility and authority
2 1 Adult acceptance
By creating or completing an Adult User account, selecting the acceptance checkbox, or continuing after a valid material-change notice where applicable, the Adult User agrees to these Terms and acknowledges the Privacy Policy. If the user does not agree, the user must not create an account or use Tabi.
An Adult User represents that they:
- are legally capable of entering this agreement under applicable law;
- provide accurate account information;
- have authority to act for the family and each Child whose data or ride they manage, to the extent required by law;
- have obtained any permission required from other holders of parental responsibilities or rights; and
- will use Tabi only in countries and circumstances in which doing so is lawful.
2 2 Child Mode
Child Mode is for ages 13 and over. An Adult User must confirm that the child is at least 13 before generating a pairing code. Younger children may remain passengers with profiles and rides managed by an Adult User; they must not use Child Mode. Existing device links without the age confirmation must be paired again. Child Mode must be set up through an authenticated parent/family flow and a short-lived pairing PIN. The Adult User who pairs or permits use of the device authorises that limited use and is responsible for explaining Child Mode and its limits in an age-appropriate way. The Adult User can revoke a linked device through supported controls.
Child Mode does not create an independent right for a Child to arrange transport, select drivers, contract with Tabi, or override a parent/guardian decision. These Terms do not claim that technical pairing alone satisfies every parental-consent, child-protection or data-protection requirement.
3 Nature and role of Tabi
Tabi provides only the technology that authorised families and community participants use to coordinate their own private ride arrangements. Tabi does not provide, sell, dispatch or operate a ride, and it is not a taxi, e-hailing, rideshare or passenger-transport service.
Parents, guardians, drivers, vehicle owners and other participating adults make and carry out each real-world ride arrangement. The driver remains responsible for the vehicle, lawful and safe driving, licensing, roadworthiness and insurance. Parents and guardians remain responsible for deciding whether a ride is suitable, selecting or approving the driver and vehicle, supervising children as required, agreeing handover arrangements and maintaining backup plans. Tabi does not employ or supervise drivers, own or operate users' vehicles, take physical custody of passengers, or perform the driving.
This description cannot override a legal classification imposed by the actual conduct, payment model, control exercised, marketing, applicable transport law or facts of a particular ride.
4 Accounts families and security
Users must:
- keep passwords, devices, OTPs and pairing PINs confidential;
- not share an Adult User account with an unauthorised person;
- promptly update inaccurate account, family, child, contact, vehicle or ride information;
- promptly revoke lost, transferred or compromised Child Mode devices;
- notify Tabi through the published support or security channel of suspected unauthorised access; and
- remain responsible, to the extent permitted by law, for activity conducted through credentials or devices they failed to protect.
Family administrators must grant roles and permissions carefully. Technical family membership does not establish legal guardianship, care, authority or kinship. Tabi may rely on account and family records for access control but does not necessarily verify the legal relationship claimed by a User.
5 Ride coordination and no guarantee of transportation
Creating, viewing, offering, matching, accepting or scheduling a Ride does not guarantee:
- that a Driver will accept or remain available;
- that a Driver or vehicle will arrive;
- that a passenger or Child will be collected;
- that pickup or drop-off will occur at an exact or estimated time;
- that the User-supplied address, pin, route or schedule is correct;
- that a Driver will locate the passenger;
- that a Ride will start, continue or be completed;
- that traffic, weather, road conditions, closures, security conditions, vehicle condition or third-party conduct will permit the Trip;
- that GPS, notifications, internet, cellular connectivity, Firebase, Maps, the device or Tabi will remain available; or
- that an accepted arrangement creates a professional carriage, employment or agency relationship with Tabi.
Drivers, parents and guardians must communicate through available, lawful channels and maintain appropriate backup arrangements. They must not rely on Tabi as the sole means of ensuring pickup, supervision, attendance at school/work/appointments or safe arrival.
Tabi may send reminders or status information, but a notification is not confirmation that the underlying real-world event occurred.
5 1 Requests to independent transport providers
Where no suitable transport arrangement is available through Tabi, Tabi may provide a User with the option to send a transport request to an independent third-party transport provider through the Tabi platform.
The User must choose whether to use this option. If the User chooses to proceed, the User authorises Tabi to provide the selected third-party transport provider with the information reasonably necessary to process the request. This may include the User's contact details, relevant passenger or Child details, pickup and drop-off information, requested date and time, and other information reasonably required for the request.
Before information is shared, Tabi will identify the third-party provider or otherwise make it reasonably clear to the User that the request will be sent to an external provider.
The third-party transport provider is independent from Tabi and is responsible for accepting or declining the request and for any transport service subsequently agreed with the User. Tabi does not provide the transport service and does not become the transport provider, carrier, employer, agent or operator merely because the request is initiated or transmitted through the Tabi platform.
Any transport service provided by the third-party provider may be subject to that provider's own terms, pricing, availability, privacy practices and service conditions. Users are responsible for reviewing and accepting any applicable third-party terms before using that service.
6 Missed failed late or changed pickup
The responsible adults must plan for a Driver who does not arrive, arrives late, cancels, cannot find the location, experiences a breakdown or emergency, loses connectivity, or receives incorrect information. They must also plan for a passenger or Child who is late, absent, at a different location or not ready.
Parents/guardians remain responsible for:
- ensuring that the Child has appropriate supervision before pickup and after drop-off;
- confirming the real-world handover where appropriate;
- ensuring that no Child is left unattended merely because a Ride appears in Tabi;
- providing correct pickup information and promptly communicating changes;
- having an alternative responsible adult, transport or collection plan; and
- taking direct action when the Driver cannot be contacted or pickup is uncertain.
A Driver must not mark a passenger as picked up or dropped off when that has not occurred. A Driver who cannot safely locate or collect a passenger must stop, communicate where possible, and follow the agreed family contingency plan rather than improvising an unsafe handover.
Tabi does not guarantee compensation for delay, missed pickup, missed school, work, appointments, flights, activities or alternative-transport costs. Any legal responsibility remains subject to the facts and applicable law.
7 Child safety supervision and custody
The parent/guardian - not Tabi - decides whether a Child may participate in a proposed Ride and whether the selected Driver, vehicle, route, timing, restraint and handover plan are suitable. The parent/guardian is responsible for choosing or approving authorised Drivers where the product permits and for sharing only necessary care instructions through appropriate channels.
Tabi technology supplements but does not replace appropriate adult supervision. A map marker, status, pickup code, notification or trip record does not transfer custody to Tabi, prove that a Child is physically with a particular person, or guarantee safety. Tabi does not assume guardianship or care merely by providing the Platform.
Drivers and any person who actually has a Child in their care must comply with all duties imposed on them by law and act in the Child's best interests. Nothing in these Terms reduces a duty that cannot lawfully be reduced or transferred.
No User should promise or infer that Tabi guarantees that a Child will never be lost, injured, delayed, left behind, collected by the wrong person or taken to an incorrect location.
8 Emergencies and a Child who cannot immediately be located
Tabi is not an emergency service and does not guarantee continuous monitoring or dispatch. SOS sends an app-based alert to configured/authorised recipients and may create a safety record; it does not itself contact police, ambulance, fire, medical, child-protection or other emergency authorities.
If there is an immediate threat to life or safety, a crash, medical emergency, suspected abduction, or a Child cannot immediately be located, Users must contact the appropriate local emergency services and responsible adults without waiting for Tabi, a map update, a support response or an alert.
If pickup apparently did not occur, the Child is absent from the expected location, the Driver and parent information conflict, GPS is unavailable, or communication fails, responsible adults should promptly:
- directly contact the Child where appropriate, the Driver, pickup/drop-off supervisors and other responsible adults;
- check the agreed pickup/drop-off and contingency locations without placing themselves or others at risk;
- preserve relevant ride, device and communication information; and
- contact emergency or child-protection authorities where the circumstances require.
Location can be stale, delayed or wrong and must not be treated as definitive evidence of a person's safety or whereabouts.
9 Driver responsibilities
A Driver must, for every Ride:
- hold a valid licence and be legally entitled and fit to drive the vehicle and carry the passengers concerned;
- ensure that the vehicle is lawfully registered, roadworthy, properly maintained and suitable for the journey;
- maintain all legally or practically required motor, passenger, third-party or other insurance/cover;
- comply with operating-licence, lift-club, school-transport or other transport requirements that apply;
- obey road rules, speed limits, road signs and lawful directions;
- never drive while impaired by alcohol, drugs, fatigue, illness or any other condition that makes driving unsafe;
- avoid phone use, tracking interaction, messaging, manual navigation input or other distraction while driving;
- use appropriate seatbelts and legally required child restraints and not exceed lawful/safe capacity;
- check passenger identity/handover and follow the agreed pickup/drop-off plan without knowingly making an unsafe substitution;
- keep account/login/device details secure;
- provide accurate Driver, vehicle, licence, availability and Ride information;
- stop live tracking when the Ride is no longer active where the app does not stop it automatically;
- promptly report collisions, safety incidents and material delays to the responsible adults and relevant authorities/insurers; and
- cooperate reasonably with lawful incident, insurance and safety investigations.
The Driver remains responsible for all driving decisions. The Driver must not interact with Tabi while it is unsafe to do so and must follow actual conditions and law over any route, prompt, status or schedule displayed by Tabi.
10 Parent and guardian responsibilities
An Adult User acting for a Child must:
- have the authority required to create/manage the Child profile and arrange the Ride;
- provide accurate, current and appropriately limited Child, family, emergency-contact, pickup/drop-off, schedule and care information;
- avoid placing unnecessary medical or highly sensitive details in free text;
- decide whether the Driver, vehicle, restraint, route, timing and handover plan are suitable;
- verify Driver/vehicle details independently where the circumstances require;
- ensure the Child is ready, supervised and at the correct pickup point;
- ensure an authorised adult is available at drop-off where appropriate;
- maintain correct emergency contacts and a backup collection/transport plan;
- communicate medical, disability, behavioural or special requirements directly and appropriately, rather than assuming an in-app note has been read;
- monitor Ride information reasonably but not rely exclusively on tracking, SOS, notifications or Tabi support; and
- take direct/emergency action when circumstances require.
The parent/guardian must not use Tabi to transfer a legal responsibility that cannot lawfully be transferred.
11 Passenger responsibilities
Adult passengers must follow lawful safety instructions, use seatbelts/restraints, behave appropriately, not distract or interfere with the Driver, not damage the vehicle, and not bring unlawful, hazardous or prohibited items.
Parents/guardians should explain age-appropriate passenger rules to Children. Any duty attributed to a young Child is behavioural guidance, not an attempt to impose an independently enforceable contract where the Child lacks legal capacity. The responsible adults retain their legal responsibilities.
12 User information and records
Users are responsible for the accuracy, lawfulness and relevance of information they provide, including names, claimed family relationships, addresses, map pins, schedules, Child details, emergency contacts, Driver/licence information, vehicle details, photos, ride notes, reviews, safety reports and missing-item descriptions.
Users must not:
- impersonate another person or misstate authority over a Child;
- create a fraudulent Ride or verification record;
- submit a false or malicious review, safety report or incident allegation;
- manipulate location, pickup, drop-off, completion or trust evidence;
- upload another person's personal information or image without authority; or
- omit a fact where the omission makes submitted safety/ride information materially misleading.
Tabi records can assist with support, safety and disputes but may be incomplete, delayed, based on User input, or affected by technical errors. They are not automatically conclusive legal evidence.
13 Identity and driver verification approval and trust limitations
Tabi may display account, driver, document, vehicle or trust statuses based on information supplied by users, system records and administrative checks. Unless Tabi expressly identifies a fact as independently verified and describes the scope of that check, users must treat it as user-provided or informational.
13 1 Electronic and alternative identity verification
Tabi may use electronic identity-verification services to compare information supplied by a User with available official or third-party identity records.
Where electronic verification is unsuccessful, unavailable or inconclusive, or does not reasonably confirm the User's identity, this does not by itself mean that the identity document or information supplied by the User is invalid. Tabi may offer or require an alternative identity-verification process.
Alternative verification may include a live video call during which the User is required to present an acceptable identity document and show their face so that an authorised Tabi representative or independent verification provider can compare the person participating in the call with the photograph and information displayed on the identity document.
Tabi may request additional supporting information or documents, or use another reasonable identity-verification method or independent verification provider, where appropriate.
Where Tabi is reasonably satisfied that the applicable alternative verification steps have been completed, Tabi may record the User's identity as having been verified through an alternative verification method. Tabi may retain a record of the verification method and outcome in accordance with the Privacy Policy.
Identity verification confirms only that the applicable identity-verification process was completed. It does not guarantee a User's character, trustworthiness, driving ability, criminal history, licensing status, insurance, vehicle safety or suitability to transport a Child.
Tabi may decline, suspend, repeat or withdraw a verification status where information cannot reasonably be verified, appears inconsistent or fraudulent, becomes outdated, or where further verification is reasonably required.
13 2 No guarantee from a status or badge
Unless the interface expressly describes a specific check that was actually completed, profile information is User-provided. Any approval, badge, status, review or trust indicator is point-in-time and informational only. It does not guarantee identity, legal eligibility, competence, safety, insurance, vehicle roadworthiness, absence of criminal history, future availability or future conduct.
Users must make their own Ride decisions and perform any independent checks appropriate to the circumstances. Tabi may change, remove or correct a status where evidence is incomplete, stale, disputed or erroneous.
14 Ratings reviews and trust indicators
Current review rules permit a parent/family context to review a Driver only after a canonically completed trip with a completed Child passenger context; self-reviews are excluded. Only qualifying cross-family reviews contribute to trust. Current trust calculations use a one-year rating period, family-weighted averages and thresholds before showing numeric or experience/high-rating indicators.
These mechanisms reduce some manipulation but do not prove that every review is accurate. Ratings reflect eligible Users' opinions and historical records, not Tabi's endorsement. A high rating, experience indicator or historical completion does not guarantee future performance, availability or safety. Users must not submit retaliatory, discriminatory, fabricated or irrelevant reviews.
Tabi may preserve, investigate, restrict, correct or remove reviews and trust evidence where lawful and appropriate, but does not promise to adjudicate every disagreement or publish every submission.
15 Location and live tracking limitations
For a Driver, live sharing is designed to start only after the Driver chooses Start Live Tracking for an eligible active Ride. It may continue while Tabi is in the background, including while another navigation app is visible, and displays an ongoing Android notification. It is designed to stop on explicit stop or when the Ride becomes completed/cancelled, subject to actual device and network behaviour.
For a paired Child device, location sharing is designed to operate only during an authorised active Trip. Continuous Child-device operation while backgrounded, terminated or rebooted is not guaranteed.
Location and route information can be unavailable, delayed, stale, duplicated or inaccurate because of GPS conditions, buildings, weather, device settings, battery depletion, power saving, operating-system restrictions, app termination, revoked permission, a switched-off/lost/damaged device, clock errors, network/provider failure or deliberate misuse. Accuracy values are estimates. A map marker does not prove who holds the device or that a person is safe.
Historical route points, arrival/deviation events and interruption records may support trip review but do not reproduce every movement. Route-deviation or separation detection is supportive and not guaranteed to detect, prevent or correctly classify every incident.
16 Safety Features
SOS, GPS-loss, Driver/Child separation, route-deviation, pickup verification, notifications, post-ride confirmations, reviews and safety reports provide additional information and communication. They are not:
- guaranteed real-time monitoring;
- a substitute for supervision, direct communication or emergency action;
- law enforcement, ambulance, medical, security or child-protection dispatch;
- a guarantee that an incident will be prevented, detected, accurately classified or resolved; or
- a guarantee that a notification will be delivered, read or acted upon.
Users must not test or misuse SOS in a way that creates false alarms or obscures genuine concerns. Tabi may share a safety concern with authorised support and, where lawful/necessary, with relevant authorities, advisers or participants as described in the Privacy Policy.
17 Maps routes and external navigation
Maps, geocoding, directions, route baselines and external navigation can be supplied or influenced by Google Maps Platform, an operating-system provider or another third party. Routes, road names, travel times, arrival estimates, traffic information and map pins may be incomplete, inaccurate or outdated.
The Driver must assess actual road, traffic, weather, security and vehicle conditions; follow road signs and traffic laws; and ignore or stop using any route or instruction that is unlawful or unsafe. A route shown by Tabi is not a command or warranty that the road is open, suitable or safe.
18 Road travel risks accidents injury and death
Road transportation involves inherent and external risks, including collisions, road hazards, weather, flooding, crime, mechanical or tyre failure, Driver error, third-party Driver error, passenger behaviour, unsafe vehicles, unexpected medical events, route conditions and events beyond Tabi's control. These risks can result in delay, property loss, serious injury or death.
Tabi provides coordination, tracking and safety-support software only. Tabi does not own, operate, control, maintain, inspect, license or insure any vehicle; employ, select, dispatch or supervise Drivers; control a Driver's route, speed or driving decisions; control road, traffic, weather or security conditions; take custody of passengers; or provide medical, rescue or emergency response. A Ride displayed, arranged or tracked through Tabi does not make Tabi the carrier, transporter, taxi operator, rideshare operator, vehicle operator or insurer.
The Driver is responsible for the vehicle and every real-world driving decision, including legal authority and fitness to drive, roadworthiness, maintenance, loading, passenger restraints, compliance with road and transport laws, insurance, route choices, speed and conduct at the scene of an incident. The vehicle owner remains responsible for duties that applicable law places on the owner or operator of the vehicle.
Parents and guardians remain responsible for deciding whether a Ride is suitable, selecting or approving the Driver and vehicle, giving accurate pickup, drop-off and care information, supervising a Child before pickup and after drop-off, agreeing safe handover arrangements, maintaining emergency contacts and arranging a backup plan. Adult passengers remain responsible for their own lawful conduct and use of available safety restraints.
Subject to applicable law, responsibility for an accident, injury, death, delay or property loss rests with the person or persons whose acts, omissions, negligence, unlawful conduct or breach of duty caused or contributed to it. To the maximum extent permitted by law, Tabi is not responsible for loss arising from the operation, condition or use of a vehicle; a Driver's or other road user's conduct; a passenger's conduct; a parent or guardian's supervision, selection or handover decision; road, traffic, weather, crime or mechanical conditions; or inaccurate information supplied by a User, except to the extent the loss was directly caused by Tabi's own conduct for which liability cannot lawfully be excluded or limited.
Each Adult User voluntarily chooses whether to request, offer, accept, perform or permit a Ride after considering the available information, the people involved and reasonable alternatives. The Adult User acknowledges the ordinary and reasonably foreseeable risks of road travel and of relying on mobile devices, networks, maps, location data and notifications. This acknowledgement does not transfer responsibility for negligent or unlawful conduct to an innocent person and does not waive a Child's or consumer's non-excludable rights.
Following a collision or serious incident, the Driver and responsible adults must prioritise immediate safety, contact emergency services, comply with legal reporting duties, obtain appropriate medical care, exchange information lawfully, notify insurers, preserve relevant evidence and notify Tabi through the published support or incident channel when safe. Users must not wait for Tabi before taking emergency or legally required action.
Tabi may preserve available platform records and cooperate with Users, insurers, advisers or authorities where lawful. Providing records or assistance does not make Tabi the Driver, vehicle owner, carrier, insurer, emergency responder, accident investigator, claims administrator or adjudicator, and Tabi does not decide criminal, civil or insurance responsibility.
Nothing in this section excludes or limits liability for Tabi's own fraud, wilful misconduct, gross negligence where it cannot lawfully be limited, breach of a non-excludable statutory duty, or any death, personal injury, consumer remedy or other liability that applicable law does not permit Tabi to exclude, limit or transfer.
19 Insurance
Tabi does not currently provide motor, passenger, medical, personal-accident, property, theft or other insurance. A Ride appearing in Tabi does not mean that a Driver, vehicle or passenger is insured.
Drivers are responsible for maintaining insurance and other cover required by law and reasonably appropriate for their vehicle, passengers, Ride type and any lift-club or transport arrangement. Parents/guardians should determine whether available cover is adequate. Users must not assume a personal motor policy covers carrying other families' children, cost sharing, repeated journeys or any reward/payment.
20 Vehicle damage and cleaning
Tabi is not automatically responsible for vehicle damage, contamination, cleaning, repair, loss of use or replacement cost merely because the Ride was coordinated through the Platform.
Responsibility may lie between the Driver/vehicle owner and the User/family/passenger whose intentional, reckless or negligent conduct caused the loss, subject to proof and applicable law. Relevant examples can include deliberate damage, unsafe interference, spills beyond ordinary travel, damage by belongings or a failure to disclose a known hazardous item.
Drivers should document material damage safely and promptly and use lawful insurance/dispute channels. Tabi has no implemented automatic damage charge, deposit, payment collection or binding adjudication process. Tabi may provide available records or restrict accounts where justified, but does not promise to determine fault or collect money.
21 Passenger property and missing items
Users are responsible for safeguarding phones, bags, school equipment, keys, devices, documents, valuables and other belongings. Users should avoid bringing unnecessary valuables and should not leave property unattended.
Tabi's current missing-item feature permits an eligible family to report a missing item after a completed trip, using a supported category and short description. It creates a limited workflow for the Driver to check/update status and for a parent to request support or mark resolution. Current reporting and interaction windows control use of the feature; they do not guarantee record deletion or return of the item.
The workflow assists communication and recovery but does not guarantee that an item will be found, preserved, returned undamaged or returned at all. Tabi does not take possession of missing property and is not automatically liable for loss, theft or damage by a Driver, passenger or third party. Users must contact police, insurers or other authorities where appropriate.
22 Disagreements conduct and off platform arrangements
Drivers, parents, passengers and family members are responsible for their own conduct and interactions. Tabi is not automatically responsible for interpersonal disputes, harassment, damage, unpaid private arrangements, accusations, promises or activity occurring outside the Platform.
The current release has no in-app payment or subscription system. If Users privately agree to share fuel or other costs outside Tabi, that arrangement is between them and may affect transport, tax, insurance or licensing obligations. Tabi does not collect, hold or guarantee such payment.
Tabi may, but is not obliged to in every case:
- request information and investigate safety, fraud or Terms concerns;
- preserve relevant platform evidence where lawful;
- restrict, suspend or terminate accounts or feature access;
- correct or remove content/status information;
- refer Users to insurers, emergency/support services or authorities; and
- cooperate with lawful requests or protect a person from harm.
Tabi does not promise to mediate or adjudicate every dispute, decide civil/criminal responsibility, recover damages, compel cooperation or produce a particular outcome.
23 User Content and licence
Users retain ownership of Content they submit. They grant Tabi a limited, non-exclusive, worldwide licence to host, store, reproduce, adapt for technical display, transmit and make the Content available to authorised recipients only as reasonably necessary to operate, secure, support and improve the Platform, enforce these Terms, and comply with law. This licence ends when the Content is deleted, except for retained shared records, backups, legal/safety evidence and other lawful exceptions described in the Privacy Policy.
The User represents that they have the rights and authority needed to submit the Content and that it does not unlawfully infringe privacy, confidentiality, intellectual property or other rights.
Tabi may moderate, restrict or remove Content that is unlawful, unsafe, abusive, fraudulent, irrelevant or contrary to these Terms. Current safety-reporting tools do not amount to a promise of comprehensive pre-screening or moderation.
24 Acceptable use
Users must not:
- use Tabi unlawfully or to facilitate unsafe or unauthorised transportation;
- harass, threaten, stalk, exploit or discriminate against another person;
- impersonate a person, create fake identities or misstate family/parental authority;
- arrange fraudulent Rides or manipulate matching, reviews, trip states or evidence;
- pair or access a Child device without authority or disclose pairing credentials;
- track a person without authority, continue tracking beyond the permitted Ride, or tamper with location/tracking controls;
- misuse SOS, pickup verification, safety reports, missing-item tools or notifications;
- upload malicious code, probe security, bypass access rules, scrape data or attempt unauthorised access;
- reverse engineer, decompile or copy Tabi except to the extent applicable law expressly permits despite this restriction;
- use another person's personal information for unrelated purposes;
- interfere with the Driver or encourage dangerous/unlawful driving; or
- use Tabi for commercial/public transport or payment arrangements not approved by Tabi and lawful under applicable rules.
25 Availability maintenance and service changes
Tabi is provided subject to reasonable availability. We do not guarantee uninterrupted, error-free, secure or universally compatible operation. Maintenance, bugs, security incidents, Firebase/Google/Maps outages, internet/GPS failure, operating-system changes, device restrictions, force stop, battery optimisation, capacity limits, legal requirements or events outside reasonable control may interrupt features.
We may maintain, secure, suspend, replace or discontinue a feature. Where a change materially affects Users' rights or a paid service, we will provide notice and remedies required by applicable law. If a material safety feature becomes unavailable, Tabi will provide reasonable notice where practicable. Emergency maintenance may occur without advance notice.
25.1 Open beta participation and limitations
Scope and voluntary participation. This section applies whenever the app or a feature is clearly identified as Open Beta or Beta. Beta participation is voluntary and helps evaluate and improve the service. A beta release is not a promise of a fully tested or completed product. A feature described as planned, experimental or under development may not be available to every user, device or location. We do not promise a date for a stable release or that every beta feature will continue into that release.
Errors and safety limitations. Beta features may contain defects, incorrect or incomplete information, delayed updates, crashes, outages or compatibility problems. These may affect ride requests, matching, pickup and drop-off records, live or historical location, maps, notifications, SOS, verification, reviews or support workflows. An error or delayed alert may cause missed arrangements or delay recognition of a safety concern. Beta status, a verification result or an app badge does not guarantee safe transport, supervision, a suitable driver, insurance, successful pickup or safe arrival. The safety and emergency requirements in these Terms continue to apply.
Direct confirmation and backup arrangements. Responsible adults must confirm the driver, passenger, pickup, destination, timing and handover arrangements through appropriate direct communication and have an alternative plan if the app or a ride fails. Do not rely on Tabi as the sole means of locating or supervising a Child or obtaining emergency help. If information conflicts or a feature fails, stop relying on that feature for the affected decision, check with the responsible adults and take appropriate safety action. Do not wait for Tabi support or an app update in an emergency.
Changes and beta records. We may update, repair, roll back, restrict, pause or end beta features for testing, safety, security, technical or legal reasons. Beta records may be incomplete, become temporarily unavailable or be lost through a fault. Testing or maintenance may require changes to beta records, subject to applicable law, the Privacy Policy and lawful retention duties. Keep an independent record of essential ride arrangements and contact details that you are authorised to hold. Where practicable, we will give reasonable notice of a planned change that materially affects an active arrangement or access to important records; urgent safety or security work may require immediate action. Changes to these Terms remain subject to section 36.
Feedback and reporting problems. Report problems through the feedback tools provided in the app or support@tabifamilyrides.co.za when safe to do so. Give a factual description, the approximate time and the app version where available. Avoid including passwords, one-time codes, full identity numbers, unnecessary Child information or other sensitive details in feedback or screenshots. Use an appropriate secure process if support needs additional information. We may investigate and prioritise reports but do not promise an immediate response, a particular fix or a resolution time unless expressly agreed or required by law. Feedback and support are not emergency-response channels.
Stopping participation. You may stop using the beta at any time. Arrange safe alternatives and communicate any change affecting an active ride before withdrawing. Account deletion and retained records remain governed by section 28 and the Privacy Policy. Leaving the beta does not remove your non-excludable rights or the responsibilities of Tabi or other participants under applicable law.
Liability and rights during beta. Sections 31 to 34 continue to apply during beta participation. The Beta label and voluntary participation do not create a blanket release of Tabi, transfer responsibility for our own unlawful conduct to users, or waive a Child's rights. Nothing in this section excludes liability for fraud, wilful misconduct, gross negligence where exclusion is prohibited, or any non-excludable duty, consumer remedy or liability for death or personal injury. Beta status does not remove any duty of care, service-quality obligation, privacy obligation or other responsibility imposed on Tabi by applicable law.
26 Intellectual property and limited user licence
Tabi's software, brand, trade marks, graphics, designs, compilations and original content are owned by or licensed to Tabi or its licensors. Subject to these Terms, Tabi grants the Adult User a personal, limited, revocable, non-exclusive, non-transferable licence to install and use the app for its intended family ride-coordination purpose.
Users may not sell, sublicense, copy, modify, distribute, create derivative works from, remove notices from, or exploit Tabi except as expressly allowed by law, an applicable open-source licence or written permission. Third-party/open-source components remain governed by their own licences.
27 Privacy and data protection
The Tabi Privacy Policy explains how personal information is collected, used, disclosed, retained and deleted. These Terms do not replace that policy.
Users must use personal information seen through Tabi only for the authorised family/Ride/safety purpose. They must not copy, publish, sell, profile or use another User's or Child's information for unrelated purposes.
28 Account deletion and retained records
A signed-in Adult User can currently use Profile → Delete Account and choose immediate deletion or a 30-day recovery period, then type DELETE. A scheduled request can be cancelled during the recovery period through the supported pending-deletion flow.
Deleting an account ends access and initiates deletion or de-identification of records that Tabi is not required or permitted to retain. Shared ride records, safety records, dispute evidence, fraud-prevention records, legal records, backups and information needed by other participants may remain for a lawful and limited period. Open rides or trips may be cancelled, and family membership may be marked as deleted.
The Terms, Privacy Policy and public deletion information will describe the same deletion scope and retention rules.
Deletion ends account access and may cancel active/open arrangements. Users must make safe alternative arrangements before requesting deletion and must not use deletion to evade an active safety, legal or financial obligation.
29 Third party services
Tabi relies on or connects to third-party services such as Google Firebase/Cloud, Google Maps Platform, Google Sign-In, Play Integrity, phone operating-system services, messaging delivery, an SMTP/hosting provider and external navigation apps. Their availability, data practices and terms may apply independently.
Tabi does not control every third-party outage, route, device policy, map error, sign-in decision or external-app action. Use of a third party does not remove Tabi's responsibilities that applicable law places on it, and these Terms do not purport to bind a third party.
30 Suspension and termination
Tabi may reasonably restrict a feature, suspend or terminate an account where necessary to address:
- an immediate safety or child-protection concern;
- fraud, impersonation, false verification or dangerous conduct;
- harassment, abuse or malicious reporting;
- unauthorised Child pairing, location access or account use;
- tracking/safety-system manipulation;
- a material or repeated breach of these Terms;
- security, technical or legal risk;
- a valid authority/court request; or
- protection of Users, Tabi or third parties.
Where appropriate and lawful, Tabi should give notice and a reasonable opportunity to respond or appeal. Immediate restriction may be necessary where delay creates risk. Suspension does not decide criminal/civil guilt and does not eliminate data retention or cooperation duties. Users may stop using Tabi and request deletion subject to section 28.
31 Disclaimer and assumption of risk
To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, and subject to the consumer-rights section below:
- Users remain responsible for real-world Ride, Driver, vehicle, supervision, route, handover and contingency decisions;
- information and features are provided as technology aids and may contain errors or depend on User/third-party input;
- Tabi makes no promise that any User, Driver, vehicle, Ride, location, route, review, trust indicator, notification or Safety Feature will meet a User's particular needs or prevent loss; and
- each Adult User accepts the ordinary and reasonably foreseeable risks of voluntarily participating in road travel and technology-assisted ride coordination, except to the extent a risk or loss is caused by conduct for which liability cannot lawfully be excluded or shifted.
No parent/guardian is asked to waive a Child's non-excludable rights, and no wording in these Terms authorises negligent, reckless, intentional or unlawful conduct.
32 Limitation of liability
To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, Tabi and its affiliated entities, directors, employees and contractors will not be liable for an accident, injury, death, property damage or other loss to the extent it was caused by, resulted from or was increased by:
- a Driver, passenger, parent, guardian or third party's act, omission, breach, negligence, unlawful conduct or inaccurate information;
- the operation, maintenance, condition, roadworthiness, loading, licensing, insurance or use of a vehicle that Tabi does not own or control;
- a collision, road hazard, weather event, crime, mechanical failure or other real-world transport event that Tabi did not cause;
- an unaccepted, cancelled, failed, missed, late, changed or incomplete Ride;
- missed school, work, appointment, activity, connection or other opportunity;
- a User's failure to supervise, verify, communicate, use restraints, maintain insurance or make backup arrangements;
- loss, theft or damage to a vehicle or personal belongings caused by another User or third party;
- inaccurate, stale or unavailable GPS, route, map, time, status, notification, SOS or safety-event information;
- battery, device, permission, operating-system, mobile network, internet, Firebase, Google, Maps or other provider failure;
- unauthorised account/device use resulting from a User's failure to protect credentials or revoke access; or
- a private payment or off-platform arrangement between Users.
To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, Tabi will not be liable for indirect, incidental, special, exemplary, punitive or consequential loss, loss of profit or income, loss of opportunity, or loss of data, except where such exclusion is prohibited.
Nothing in these Terms excludes or limits liability for fraud, wilful misconduct, gross negligence where it cannot be limited, death or personal injury where limitation is prohibited, breach of a non-excludable statutory duty, or any other liability/consumer remedy that applicable law does not permit Tabi to exclude, limit or modify.
The facts and applicable law determine responsibility for an accident, injury, death, property damage or other claim. These Terms do not make a final allocation in advance.
33 Indemnity
To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, an Adult User will indemnify Tabi against a third-party claim, reasonable proven loss and reasonable legal cost, but only to the extent caused by that User's:
- material breach of these Terms;
- fraudulent, unlawful, intentionally harmful or negligent conduct;
- unauthorised Child pairing, tracking or disclosure of personal information;
- knowingly false Ride, identity, vehicle, review, safety or missing-item information;
- infringement of a third party's rights;
- damage caused to a vehicle/passenger/property for which that User is legally responsible; or
- operation of a vehicle or transport arrangement contrary to law, licence or insurance requirements.
The indemnity should not apply to the extent the claim was caused by Tabi's own breach, negligence or unlawful conduct. Tabi should give reasonable notice, permit appropriate participation in the defence, mitigate loss and not settle an indemnified claim in a way that imposes non-monetary obligations on the User without consent, subject to urgent safety/legal needs.
Nothing creates an unlimited indemnity from a consumer or Child where that would be unfair, unconscionable or unlawful.
34 Consumer rights
Nothing in these Terms excludes, limits or modifies any right, guarantee, remedy, liability or duty that cannot lawfully be excluded, limited or modified. If a mandatory law gives a User greater protection than these Terms, the mandatory law prevails.
No disclaimer means that Tabi may provide services without reasonable care where the law requires it, make misleading claims, conceal a material limitation, avoid a child-protection duty, or contract out of liability that law makes non-excludable.
35 Payments and subscriptions
Tabi does not currently offer paid subscriptions or process ride payments. If Tabi introduces a paid service, the price, billing cycle, renewal, cancellation, refund, tax and purchase-data terms will be presented before purchase and will be subject to applicable consumer law.
Private cost-sharing arrangements between users remain outside Tabi unless the service is expressly changed to support them.
36 Changes to Tabi and these Terms
Tabi may update the service and these Terms for legal, safety, security, technical or product reasons. The updated Terms will identify their version/effective date. For a material change, Tabi will provide the notice and renewed acceptance required by law before the change binds the User. A User who does not agree may stop using Tabi and request deletion, subject to lawful retention.
We will not treat continued use as acceptance where applicable law requires an express choice.
37 Informal resolution and disputes
A user should first contact Tabi through the support channel published in the app or on Tabi's official website and provide a concise description of the dispute and any relevant reference. This does not prevent urgent relief or use of a statutory process that cannot be waived.
The parties may agree to mediation. Any court or arbitration process remains subject to applicable law, consumer rights and a separate valid agreement where required. These Terms do not impose mandatory arbitration or a class-action waiver.
38 Governing law and jurisdiction
These Terms are governed by the laws that apply to Tabi's operating entity and the user, including mandatory consumer protections. Any dispute must be brought in a forum that has jurisdiction under applicable law.
39 General provisions
- Severability. If a provision is invalid or unenforceable, it should be limited or removed only to the minimum extent lawful, without changing the remainder, unless that would defeat the agreement's essential purpose.
- No waiver. A failure or delay to enforce a provision is not a waiver. A waiver must be clear and applies only to the stated instance.
- Assignment. A User may not transfer an account or these Terms without written permission. Tabi may assign the agreement as part of a genuine restructuring, financing or transfer of the service, subject to law, notice and preservation of User rights.
- Entire agreement. These Terms, the Privacy Policy and any expressly incorporated feature-specific terms are the agreement concerning use of Tabi. They do not override non-waivable law or a separate written agreement expressly signed by authorised parties.
- Order of documents. Privacy matters are governed by the Privacy Policy; these Terms govern platform use. A conflict must be resolved by Tabi and counsel before publication, not by choosing whichever provision gives Tabi greater protection.
- Headings. Headings assist reading and do not limit a provision.
- Survival. Provisions concerning IP, retained records, disputes, liability, indemnity and other matters intended by their nature to continue may survive account closure, only for as long and to the extent lawful.
- Notices. Legal notices will be sent through the contact methods published in the app or on Tabi's official website and are effective as determined by applicable law.

Support, legal, privacy and account-deletion enquiries: support@tabifamilyrides.co.za. Address privacy and PAIA requests to the Information Officer or Head of ANCODE (PTY) LTD through this company mailbox. Tabi support is not an emergency service.
Sharing ride invitations
You may choose to share a limited ride invitation with your community. Enter only suburb or town names in its public area fields and ensure you have authority to share any information you send. Do not include children’s names, exact home/school addresses, identity information, phone numbers or pickup codes in public invitations. Recipients must sign in or create an account and meet Tabi’s normal ride and driver eligibility requirements; a link does not reserve a seat, approve a driver or grant tracking access.
Invitations may expire, be stopped or become unavailable as rides change. Previously sent or forwarded messages remain outside Tabi’s control. WhatsApp and other external services have their own terms and privacy practices. Tabi is not an emergency service.
